Check your heating system for leaks

Check for signs of leakage from your tank, valves, flanges, pipe work and boiler.

Service your boiler annually

Boiler efficiency is crucial!  If your boiler is poorly maintained you can have up to 30% heat loss.  Engage a good boiler service company to carry out an annual service.

Insulate your attic and hot water tank

This will keep your water warmer for longer and help reduce heat loss through your attic.

Turn down your heating thermostat

Reducing the heating temperature in your home even by only 1 degree could save you 10% on your heating bill! The recommended temperature for an average family home is 20 degrees.

Use a timer or programmable thermostat

Program or time your heating to only come on when you need it most and vary the temperature throughout the day.

Don’t run out of Heating Oil

It’s annoying for you so try to ensure regular top ups or we can schedule you in for a top up every month / two months.  When you run out of oil, some oil will be wasted if your system needs to be bled in order to restart it. It will also cost more to get back to the desired temperature.

Heat the rooms you use

Turn off radiators or close vents in unused rooms and keep doors closed.

Don’t block your radiators

This results in poor output and imagine the waste having all that heat going into the back of your couch!  Free up space around radiators.
